Weekly Homework
Homework is required to be turned in weekly. With the exception of reading, you may choose to complete the assignments in any order. Reading should take place every night, 7 days a week. Below is an example of a suggested daily homework schedule.
EVERY NIGHT:
Read for 20-30 minutes. Minutes will gradually increase from 20 minutes to 30 minutes by November. You may want to use the green slip to keep a record of your nightly minutes then record the weekly total in your Monday folder.
- September 20 minutes
- October 25 minutes
- November 30 minutes
MONDAY:
• Read 20-30 and record on the green daily reading tally slip.
• Practice math facts for 25 minutes. At least half of this time should be spent with facts on paper. The other half can be practicing facts on the internet or with math fact games.
TUESDAY:
• Read 20-30 minutes and record on the green daily reading tally slip.
• Write a paragraph in your Journal to an adult you’d like a response from. Have this adult write back to you in your journal.
• Work on Spelling activity
WEDNESDAY:
• Read 20-30 minutes and record on the green daily reading tally slip.
• Practice math facts for 25 minutes.
THURSDAY:
• Read 20-30 minutes and record on the green daily reading tally slip.
• Add up your 5 days of reading minutes and record on the “Communication Log” in your homework folder.
• Complete Reading Response on a book you are reading this week in notebook.
* On back of the math facts sheet, work out difficult facts by using strategies that make sense to you. Also, refer to math strategy pages in the homework folder.
NOW…
1. Completed assignments and logged reading minutes will receive collegiate bucks.
2. Remember to ask a parent or guardian to record your reading minutes for the week and check off the homework! A parent signature or initials on the “Communication Log” is required.
3. Put your folder in your backpack so you’ll be ready for school tomorrow
